Basic Moves for Country Linedance
These are some terms that are used to describe one or more moves when dancing country linedance:
BASIC/ GRAPEVINE
Four moves in four tempos are made:
1. Step to the right/ left with the right foot/ left
2. Cross left foot/ right in front of the right one/ left
3. Step to the right/ left with the right foot/ left
4. Sting with left foot/ right next to the right one/ left
COASTER STEP
Three moves in two tempos are made:
1. Step backwards with right foot/ left
2. Step backwards with left foot/ right next to the right one/ left
Step forward with right foot/ left
CROSS
Cross one foot in front/ behind the other
HEEL
It refers the heel
HEEL SPLITS
Two steps in two tempos are made:
1. Open both heels at the same time without moving the tiptoes
2. Close feet’s heels at the same time
HEEL TOUCH
Mark the heels
HEEL SWITCHES
In one tempo, mark the heel of one foot forward to then take it back to place
HITCH
Lift up a leg’s knee
HOLD
Do a small pause of one tempo
HOOK
Lift up your foot until the opposite foot’s knee or boot shaft forward or backwards
HOP
Bend the knee leaving it parallel to the floor. Then jump on the other foot
JAZZ BOX / JAZZ TRIANGLE
Four steps in four tempos are made:
1. Cross right foot/ left in front of the left one/ right
2. Step backwards with left foot/ right
3. Step to the right/ left with right foot/ left
4. Go back with left foot/ right next to right foot/ left
JUMP
Jump with both feet at the same time. Then fall again with both feet together.
KIKC
Kick forward
KICK BALL CHANGE
Three steps in two tempos are made:
1. Kick forward with right foot/ left
2. Go back with right foot/ left to place
Step into place with left foot/ right
ROCK
Lean body’s weight on one foot when moving forward or backwards/ right/ left
ROCK STEP
Two steps in two tempos are made:
1. Step forward with one foot crossing it in front of the other, leaning body’s weight in it
2. Take back body’s weight to the other foot without moving of the spot
SCUFF
Rub the foot’s heel on the floor when stepping forward
STEP
Step towards any direction
STOMP
Kick the floor with the foot’s sole
SWIVEL
1. Move both heels to the right/ left
2. Move both tiptoes to the right/ left
3. Move both heels to the right/ left
TOE
Foot’s toe
TOE SPLITS
1. Open both tiptoes without moving the heels
2. Close again both tiptoes at the same time
TOE TOUCH
Lean foot’s tiptoe
TOUCH
Mark with heel / feet’s tiptoe on the floor, without leaving body’s weight in it
TRIPLE TOUCH
Three steps in two tempos are made:
1. Step forward with right foot/ left
Step forward with left foot/ right crossing it behind the other one
2. Step forward with right foot/ left
TWIST
Move both heels in any direction, leaving body’s weight on foot’s sole
